St. Anne of Barrington team captures Scholastic Bowl

The Scholastic Bowl team from Saint Anne Parish School of Barrington brought home the gold this week from an 18-team competition at Notre Dame College Prep in Niles.

The team, made up of 6th through 8th graders, pulled out the victory in dramatic fashion, rallying from a 70-point deficit to win.

In the final round, Saint Anne prevailed over the then-undefeated Saint Paul of the Cross team from Park Ridge, which created a three-way tie for first place. After the tournament's tiebreaking rules were all sorted out between Saint Paul of the Cross, Our Lady of the Wayside in Arlington Heights and Saint Anne Parish School, the Barrington students emerged victorious.

"There were five matches and it was hard to make it through the night," said Jack Hoppe, the team's captain. "We were facing some large schools and I could not be prouder."
