Glad no Roskam bid for leadership role

I am writing in response to the Daily Herald article, "Roskam won't run for GOP leadership." Mr. Roskam said he would not run for a leadership position in Congress and encouraged his party to look for a new plan, not just a person, in light of Speaker Boehner's resignation.

The article goes on to say he urges his party to come up with a plan for how best to assert its authority against President Obama's administration.

Call me crazy but I have the Civics 101 notion that our legislative branch of government is there, elected by us, to make the laws, originate spending bills, impeach officials, and approve treaties. This Congress has done nothing except oppose President Obama at every turn. We have crumbling infrastructure, mass shootings every week, unsafe tanker cars rolling through communities across the country, an overwhelming immigration situation and Mr. Roskam's advice to his party is to do stiffer planning to oppose the president.

I am greatly relieved that he did not run for a leadership position.
