Police: Speed factor in crash that killed men in Lake in the Hills

Speed was a factor in the rollover crash that killed two men early Saturday morning in Lake in the Hills, police said.

The McHenry County coroner's office identified the driver as Blake Bishop, 45, of Lake in the Hills. He was ejected from the vehicle and died of multiple blunt force injuries to his head and neck, an autopsy performed Monday revealed. The lone passenger, John Douglas Baxter Jr., 49, of Crystal Lake, was trapped inside when police arrived. An autopsy revealed Baxter died from multiple injuries to his head, neck, chest, abdomen and extremities. Both men died at the scene and toxicology is pending, authorities said.

"Speed was a factor in the accident and we are continuing the investigation to try and determine if there were any other factors, as well," Lake in the Hills Deputy Chief Pat Boulden said.

A Lake in the Hills patrol officer came upon the single-vehicle accident on Pyott Road, south of East Oak Street, shortly after midnight. The vehicle, an Audi R8, had been traveling north on Pyott Road before leaving the road, rolling over several times and coming to rest on its roof.

Boulden said there were no witnesses to the crash and authorities don't know how fast the car was going. The speed limit in that area is 50 mph, he added.

"The investigation is going to take a while," he added.
