Pope fits in well with Obama and his pals

Pope Francis visited the USA and made a great impression not only on Catholics but also on those outside the church, who would normally harbor hostility because of church teachings on abortion, homosexuality, divorce, contraception and other sins.

Rather, he fit in nicely with President Barack Obama and his fans. Seeing such camaraderie among kindred spirits just warmed the cockles of my heart.

What was there not to like? His basic message seems to be "I'm OK, you're OK." That is not exactly fire and brimstone. He now serves as the Pope of Holy Tolerance and Inclusion.

The only people who are not OK are Republicans and the people they represent. They are the real problem, because they drag their feet on increasing taxes to help poor people. Poor people in the U.S. have Section 8 housing. They have indoor plumbing. They have hot and cold running water. They have electricity. They have big screen TVs. They have cars. They have refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, stoves, radios, computers and cellphones. They have free food, free education and free medical care. Yet, that is not enough. They want more. But, those stingy, selfish Republicans refuse to give it to them. What is a Pope supposed to do?

Well, he can always criticize "unfettered capitalism."
