'Looking Forward, Glancing Back' art exhibit coming to Adler center

For the first time, the David Adler Music and Arts Center will partner with the American Jewish Artists Club to present "Looking Forward, Glancing Back," the club's annual juried show.

An opening reception will be on from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the David Adler Music and Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will run through Oct. 29.

While the American Jewish Artists Club has held annual juried shows for nearly 75 years, "Looking Forward, Glancing Back" marks the first time the Chicago-based organization has held their annual exhibit at the David Adler Music and Arts Center.

The exhibit will feature oil and acrylic paintings, monotype, collage, and mixed media.

"It's our biggest event of the year, and it's important to the organization." Exhibition Chair Adrienne Aaronson said. "We're always looking for new members."

Jury members include Lake County landscape painter Nina Weiss and sculptor Sheila Oettinger.

The American Jewish Artists Club was founded in Chicago in 1926 and has exhibited in galleries, synagogues, museums, universities and community centers throughout the region. Members plan exhibits, plein air outings, and cultural and educational programming.

AJAC member, Susan Kronowitz, will exhibit an oil painting of a rider on a Lipizzaner horse which was inspired by her experiences taking photos at Tempel Farms.

"I then used those photo images to create a number of paintings," she said. "Being part of the Lake County Art scene, I consider the Adler Center to be a wonderful venue for artists."

Visit "Looking Forward, Glancing Back" at the David Adler Music and Arts Center from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 8-29.
