A Lisle church is planning a Sunday prayer walk to honor Sandra Bland as the Texas Rangers and the FBI continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the 28-year-old Naperville woman's death this week in a Texas county jail cell. A video that shows Bland's arrest on YouTube is causing family members and friends to question the circumstances surrounding the woman's arrest and statements by authorities that she apparently hanged herself while in custody. 87-year-old man struck, killed by train near Lake Forest Metra station

Police said an 87-year-old man from Lake County was struck and killed by a Canadian Pacific freight train at 1:54 p.m. yesterday at the Lake Forest Metra station. According to a news release by the Lake Forest Police Department, the man was struck by a southbound train and killed immediately. Police said they are not revealing the victim's identity until his family is notified. Full story.

Probation for former Elgin deputy police chief in felony identity theft

A former Elgin deputy police chief pleaded guilty yesterday to hacking into his then-mistress's ex-husband's business email in an attempt to help her in her divorce. Robert Beeter, 53, of Elgin, faced 20 counts of identity theft and misconduct, but those were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea and sentence of two years probation, along with 50 hours of community service, $1,140 in court fees and fines. Elgin drug bust nets armed robbery suspect

A drug bust led Elgin police to capture the suspect in an armed robbery from earlier this week, police said. Police nabbed Deandre Anderson, 25, of the 700 block of Grace St., Elgin, who is a suspect in Monday's armed robbery in the area of Crystal and Ball streets, and a 16-year-old male and said they were selling drugs and ammunition at an Elgin home. Mike Ditka's son arrested on battery charge at Des Plaines casino

The son of former Chicago Bears Head Coach Mike Ditka was arrested by Des Plaines police Saturday at River's Casino on a charge of battery, according to police. Michael P. Ditka, 53, of the 600 block of Deerfield Road in Deerfield, is scheduled to appear at the Second Municipal District Courthouse in Skokie on the charge at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 10. Full story.
