87-year-old man struck, killed by train near Lake Forest Metra station

Police said an 87-year-old man from Lake County was person was struck and killed by a Canadian Pacific freight train at 1:54 p.m. at the Lake Forest Metra station.

According to a news release by the Lake Forest Police Department, the man was struck by a southbound train and killed immediately.

Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said the Lake Forest Metra station was closed for about three hours while investigators worked at the crash scene.

Reile said the train was stopped at the scene for that time while a replacement crew was brought in to take over for the crew operating the train when the crash happened. The train left the station at about 4:45 p.m.

Police said they are not revealing the victim's identity until his family is notified.

Lake Forest detectives continue to investigate the crash in cooperation with the Metra Police Department,
