Schaumburg woman pleads not guilty in death of disabled daughter

A Schaumburg woman charged in the death of her severely disabled daughter entered a not guilty plea to first-degree murder charges yesterday. Bonnie Liltz, 55, is accused of feeding her 28-year-old daughter, Courtney, a combination of prescription and over-the-counter medication in what authorities called a failed murder-suicide attempt. Former Carpentersville police chief dies at 86

During his time as Carpentersville police chief, Jim Klinkhamer could be found in his office on Saturday morning, a line of people waiting outside to talk with him. "He always taught me to treat people the way you wanted to be treated," his oldest son, Dan, said, comparing the meetings with the public to modern-day "coffee with the mayor." Rosemont plans hotel, restaurants near Fashion Outlets

Rosemont is planning a 150-room hotel, office headquarters building, retail shops and restaurants on vacant property across the Tri-State Tollway from the Fashion Outlets mall, village officials announced yesterday. Development of the 16 acres south of Balmoral Avenue and west of the tollway has been sought by village officials since they began buying and demolishing former light industrial buildings there six years ago. No injuries were reported in an Aurora fire the damaged a single-family home last night. Aurora Fire Department Battalion Chief John Gilbert said firefighters were called to a one-story house on the 1400 block of Reckinger around 7:30 p.m.; a fire had started on the porch. Full story.

Kirk, Duckworth raise big money in Senate race

Sen. Mark Kirk pulled ahead in the fundraising race for U.S. Senate with his campaign saying yesterday he'll report raising $1.35 million in the past three months toward re-election. And Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates, who is challenging Kirk, said her campaign raised $1.2 million over the same period. Full story.

Officials: 3 teens cited in draining of Carol Stream fountain

Three teens have been cited for trespassing after authorities said they drained roughly 60,000 gallons of water from the fountain in Carol Stream's Ross Ferraro Town Center. North Barrington man charged with child porn possession

A North Barrington man faces three counts of child pornography possession after a yearlong investigation by Lake County authorities. James M. Parsino, 50, of the 100 block of North Rainbow Road, was arrested Wednesday at his home and is being held in the Lake County jail pending a court appearance Thursday. Full story.
