Think 'The Amazing Race' for Dundee Township

Modeled after the popular reality television show "The Amazing Race," Dundee Township Park District's newest event will test participants on their sills and knowledge of the community, event organizers said.

The Pursuit, which is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 22, will "encourage team building and unite the community," said Tammy Greco, recreation supervisor for the park district.

Starting at Grafelman Park in West Dundee, teams of four will be asked to complete various challenges, the details of which are not being released ahead of time, Greco said.

Upon completion of a challenge, participants will receive a clue that will lead them to the next one.

The challenges can be completed by people of varied ability, Greco said. However, the event must be completed entirely on foot, and it is recommended that teams are able to run or walk quickly between locations.

"It is a race, after all," Greco said.

The race will be approximately 5 miles and will include portions of East Dundee, West Dundee and Carpentersville. Awards will be given to winning teams.

The event is for ages 10 and up, but each team must have at least one participant older than 18.

Greco said she participated in a similar event through the Illinois Park and Recreation Association the past few years.

"We thought we'd bring it to our town," she said, noting that the clues and challenges are different and will be fitting for the community.

Only one team has registered for the event so far, but Greco said the event is structured for anywhere between 10 and 50 teams.

Registration is $80 per team until Aug. 1 and $100 per team after that through Aug. 10. Teams can register at dtpd.org or at any recreation center.

"Hopefully, The Pursuit will unite the community and bring forth a little bit of knowledge regarding the history of the surrounding towns," Greco said.
