Officials investigating death at Naperville's Ribfest

Naperville police are investigating an apparent suicide that happened at Naperville's Ribfest celebration yesterday afternoon. Ride operators and witnesses, including Paige Shipley of Naperville, said they saw someone dive under the moving Pharaoh's Fury, a boat-shaped ride. "It was not a ride malfunction and it doesn't look like it was accidental," Naperville Deputy Chief Brian Cunningham said. "It's a sad situation." Full story.

Iconic Hoffman Lanes bowling alley closes

Hoffman Lanes, a longtime destination for bowling in the Northwest suburbs, has closed and was already being boarded up yesterday. "It's unfortunate, because it really is an icon here in Hoffman Estates," village Economic Development Director Kevin Kramer said. The news comes just as the village board is poised Monday to consider a Main Event family entertainment center featuring bowling lanes next to the Sears Centre Arena. Full story.

Man injured in crash that closed two lanes on I-90

A driver was injured yesterday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash that closed the left lane of both eastbound and westbound traffic on the Jane Addams Tollway at Roselle Road in Schaumburg for about 4½ hours. Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Chadd Brody said witnesses told investigators the driver was heading east in the far-right lane of traffic at 2:49 p.m. and swerved to the left, cutting across several lanes before slamming into and flipping over the concrete wall dividing eastbound and westbound traffic. Arlington Heights police seek help identifying trio who stole $1,600 in liquor

Arlington Heights police say they are attempting to identify three people who stole more than $1,600 worth of liquor from a Jewel-Osco in June. According to police, two men and one woman worked together to steal from the store at Rand and Palatine roads after midnight on June 10. Full story.

People who pulled off $120,000 Oak Brook robbery possibly caught

Oak Brook police said some or all of the nine masked burglars who robbed the Louis Vuitton store at Oakbrook Center last September have been apprehended by Minnesota police. According to a news release from the Oak Brook Police Department, the people are connected to the Chicago area and some or all may be linked to the Oak Brook robbery. Last September, burglars escaped with more than 50 pieces of merchandise worth more than $120,000 from the luxury purse maker, authorities said. Full story.
