Downers Grove woman held on drug charges

A 31-year-old Downers Grove woman with multiple drug convictions was ordered held on $100,000 bail Wednesday after police arrested her on charges of delivery of a controlled substance.

Police had targeted Nicole Drane, of the 5000 block of Dunham Road, as a source of heroin in the Hanover Park area, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin said.

Officers from the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force obtained a search warrant for Drane's vehicle and any occupants June 25, Shin said. On Monday, on the 1300 block of Chicago Street in Elgin, officers executed the warrant, recovering 2.1 grams of heroin with a street value of $220, Shin said.

Drane has been charged with a non-probationable felony because of her criminal background, which includes jail time for misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrests, Shin said. She also has several bond forfeitures, he said.

In 2004, Drane received two years probation for possession of a controlled substance. While on probation in 2006, she was charged with selling drugs to an undercover officer and sentenced to 24 months' probation, Shin said.

If Drane posts bail, prosecutors asked Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo for a source of bail hearing, to ensure the money did not come from proceeds from drug sales.

According to Shin, when Drane was under intermittent surveillance last December, officers never observed her "entering any legitimate place of business to work."

Drane next appears in court July 23.
