Driver cited for striking two pedestrians in Palatine

A Lake Zurich man who authorities say struck two people with his car as they walked across a Palatine road Monday has been cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said Wednesday.

Police said Randall Anderson, 59, of the 0-100 block of Fern Court, was driving a 2005 Toyota convertible northbound on North Smith Street near the intersection Brandon Court at 7:06 p.m. when the vehicle hit the pedestrians as they walked in a crosswalk eastbound across Smith.

The pedestrians, Palatine residents Amy Szakola, 52, and Zbigniew Szakola, 63, suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, authorities said. They were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment.

Anderson, who remained on the scene after the crash, did not report any injuries, police said.
