Carpentersville assistant village manager to become city administrator in Prospect Heights

Joseph Wade, an assistant village manager and economic development director in Carpentersville, has been named to the top administrative post in Prospect Heights.

Wade, who lives in Glenview, will become the city administrator Monday, June 8. He will be paid $145,000 a year.

He will succeed William Balling, who, since June 2014, has managed the day-to-day operations for the city. Balling also was tasked with finding a successor to Ken Lopez, who abruptly resigned as city administrator after less than two months on the job.

Wade was chosen from a pool of 38 candidates screened and interviewed by Balling. Mayor Nick Helmer and the city council approved Wade's hiring May 26.

Wade's experience in economic development, budget and capital planning and human resources were highlighted in a news release Wednesday announcing the choice. Before his current role, Wade was village administrator in Morton Grove from 2005 to 2011, according to his resume. And before that, Wade was assistant village manager in Glenview.

He holds master's degrees in public administration from Northern Illinois University and in industrial relations from Loyola University in Chicago.
