Elmwood Park woman critically injured in Elgin crash
A 65-year-old woman was in critical condition with injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon that sent another person to the hospital and closed down several Elgin streets for about three hours.
Elgin police said officers and fire department personnel responded to the crash at about 1:56 p.m. at the intersection of West Bartlett Road and Schoen Drive.
The preliminary investigation revealed that one of the vehicles was traveling east on West Bartlett Road when its driver, a 27-year-old North Aurora man, attempted to turn north and struck a vehicle traveling west on West Bartlett Road, according to police.
The driver of the vehicle heading west, a 68-year-old Bartlett woman, was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. Her passenger, a 65-year-old Elmwood Park woman, was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin with serious injuries and was listed Sunday in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the crash, police said.
Several streets in the area of the traffic crash were closed during the investigation for approximately three hours, according to police.
