Streamwood fugitive James Utley found in Bartlett

A Streamwood man who walked out of the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows during his trial on drugs and weapons charges Wednesday was found at a Bartlett address Thursday night, Cook County sheriff's police said today.

James Utley, 37, was not in the custody of police at the time he left the courthouse while a jury deliberated his case, authorities said. He was found guilty in his absence and could potentially face a sentence of life in prison for that conviction.

Though Utley had most recently lived on the 1100 block of Fulton Street in Streamwood, he was found at an another address he'd been associated with on the 1100 block of Longford Road in Bartlett at 10:20 p.m. Thursday.

While arresting Utley for a parole violation in February 2014, police and Illinois Department of Corrections officers said they found 27.6 grams of heroin, 78.7 grams of cocaine, digital scales, a 9-millimeter semi-automatic pistol, a .38-caliber revolver and more than 150 rounds of ammunition at his Streamwood address.

During his trial, Utley testified that the drugs and guns did not belong to him. He said his estranged wife and their children lived in the Streamwood home, while he lived with his sister in Schaumburg. He said he initially told police the drugs and weapons were his to protect his children.

Utley was scheduled to return to court again today, Cook County sheriff's police said.
