McHenry man found shot near Lake Villa charged with burglary in Wisconsin

A McHenry man found shot in the parking lot of a Lake Villa-area tavern has been arrested and charged in Wisconsin for burglary to an occupied residence, authorities said.

Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose said Justin Diedrich, 23, was also charged in Lake County for obstructing a peace officer and for being a fugitive from justice.

Diedrich remains stable at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Rose said, but he will be taken to Lake County jail and bond court immediately upon his medical release.

Diedrich was found shot in the arm at the PMO Club parking lot on the 37000 block of Route 59 about 9:45 p.m. Monday.

He was shot once, Rose said, but the bullet grazed his torso before becoming lodged in his arm.

Diedrich was taken inside the tavern, where police and rescuers were contacted, Rose said.

After Diedrich refused to cooperate with police, Rose said, investigators with the Lake County sheriff's office shared information with the Kenosha County sheriff's department.

That led to Kenosha issuing an arrest warrant for Diedrich late Friday afternoon, Rose said. He would not comment on the Wisconsin shooting.

According to a news release on the Kenosha County sheriff's website, officers were called to the 22000 block of 121st Street in Salem, Wisconsin, at 9:31 p.m. Monday for a man who was shot.

The unidentified male victim reported to police he was shot by one of two assailants at his home in the Lake Shangri-La subdivision, the news release says.

The news release adds the unidentified man was able to retrieve a gun and fire back at the assailants, potentially hitting one of the suspects.

The victim of the Salem shooting was taken to St. Catherine's Hospital for treatment of gunshot wound that was not life-threatening, the news release said.

Lt. Justin Miller of the Kenosha County sheriff's department confirmed the arrest warrant issued for Diedrich was associated with the Salem shooting, but he could not go into additional details late Friday.

Rose said Diedrich is charged in Lake County because he gave false information to police investigators and he came to Illinois to escape the shooting in Wisconsin.

Rose said Diedrich will remain under guard at the hospital until his release.
