Semi rollover accident stalls traffic on Rt. 53

Two people were injured and traffic extensively delayed this afternoon when a semitrailer truck rolled over on Route 53 at Lake-Cook Road, state police said.

The crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. on the ramp from northbound Route 53 to eastbound Lake-Cook Road, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Amy Pelletier said.

Buffalo Grove emergency responders transported the driver and his female passenger to Northwest Community Hospital with unknown injuries.

The ramp remained closed at 6 p.m. while workers attempted to upright the truck, which was carrying two large metal coils weighing 22,900 pounds each, Pelletier said. Traffic was still able to exit at westbound Lake-Cook, she said.
