Woman admits Palatine forest preserve attack was fake

A Des Plaines woman whose claim that she was stabbed in a forest preserve turned out to be false was sentenced to two years probation Thursday, prosecutors said.

Veronica Klicka, 33, pleaded guilty to filing a false police report.

She had told police a stranger stabbed her while she was jogging in the Deer Grove East Forest Preserve in Palatine last November.

Cook County Sheriff's police subsequently determined that Klicka had stabbed herself with a knife. Authorities say she created the story because she was on supervision for a DUI and believed she was not allowed to possess a knife as a condition of her supervision.
