Suspect charged in Elgin lottery heists
A 25-year-old Evanston man was in custody at the Kane County jail Sunday facing allegations he broke into Elgin gas stations three times this month to steal lottery tickets.
Barrington L. Goodman, of the 9000 block of Central Park Avenue, is charged with three counts of burglary stemming from break-ins Feb. 8 and Feb. 14 at the Marathon Gas Station, 285 North McLean Blvd., and Feb. 21 at the Citgo Gas Station, 282 Dundee Ave.
Elgin police said officers arrested Goodman on Saturday after the police department's Major Investigations Division was contacted by Des Plaines police regarding man taken into custody in that city earlier that morning after attempting to cash stolen Illinois Lottery tickets. Goodman also had in his possession additional lottery tickets identified as being stolen from the burglaries at the Marathon and Citgo gas stations, police said.
Goodman appeared in Kane County court Sunday morning, when a judge set his bail at $30,000.
The charges against Goodman are Class 2 felonies punishable by a maximum three to seen years in prison. No additional court information was available Sunday.
