Police: South Elgin man charged with DUI after crashing Porsche into snowplow
The driver of a Porsche that slammed into a snowplow Sunday in Elgin was being held on $75,000 bail in Kane County jail.
Jose N. Ruiz, 25, of the 600 block of Dean Street, South Elgin, was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Elgin and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing of a police officer resulting in bodily injury, aggravated fleeing of a police officer while disobeying two or more traffic signals, aggravated fleeing of a police officer resulting in more than $300 in property damage, and driving on a suspended license for a DUI violation, Kane County court records show.
Ruiz was driving a 2006 Porsche at about 50 mph in snowy conditions along Congdon Avenue when officers attempted to stop him after a report of shots fired, according to an Elgin police report. Ruiz fled from police and ended up hitting a city snowplow, causing more than $1,000 in damage, according to police. Ruiz fled on foot, only to be caught while hiding near a residence, police said.
Ruiz was treated and released from Presence St. Joseph Hospital, police said. Also treated and released was a police officer whose car crashed into the rear of the Porsche after it came to a stop.
