Kenneth Young Center to open new facility in Mt. Prospect

The Kenneth Young Center, a social-service provider based in Elk Grove Village, is in the process of opening a drop-in center in Mount Prospect.

The facility, at 1585 Dempster St., will provide a variety of skill-building services for seniors and adults with mental-health issues. It will also house offices for a number of the Kenneth Young Center's service teams.

“What this does is give us a better reach out to the eastern end of our service area,” said Mitchell Bruski, chief executive officer of the Kenneth Young Center. “We opened a similar facility in Schaumburg, which serves people on the western end. This will improve our regional impact.”

The Kenneth Young Center groups that will have offices in the Mount Prospect location are the Community Support Team, which helps disabled adults transition from nursing homes to independent living; Senior Services, which helps seniors with managed care issues; and Screenings, Assessments and Supportive Services (SASS), which helps children and teens with emotional disturbances to live as independently as possible.

The drop-in facility sits adjacent to Myers Place, a residential development for people who have mental illness but can live independently. The Kenneth Young Center provides support services on site for Myers Place residents.

Bruski said staff members are now moving into the building. He expects the move to be complete in a week or so. The Kenneth Young Center will hold a formal open house for the new facility in late winter or early spring, he said.

The new facility is funded in part by the Illinois Department of Human Services.
