4 years in prison for St. Charles man nabbed in ecstasy bust

A 20-year-old St. Charles man was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to dealing ecstasy after a 2014 undercover bust in Elgin.

Jacob M. Laurance, of the 1000 block of Glenbriar Court, had been held at the Kane County jail since his arrest in June 2014.

He was charged with possession of more than 15 grams of ecstasy with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of Coleman Elementary School on Dundee Avenue, records show.

The felony charges carried a penalty of six to 30 years in prison, but Laurance pleaded guilty last week to reduced charges.

Laurance's defense attorney, Joshua Dieden, did not return a phone message seeking comment.

Laurance and his girlfriend, Alexandra R. Wojcik, 18, of the 0-99 block of Saratoga Court, South Elgin, were arrested in an undercover operation by Elgin police in which Laurance agreed to sell $100 worth of ecstasy to a customer on the 1200 block of Dundee Avenue.

After Laurance was arrested, officers searched Wojcik's car and found 16 grams of ecstasy, a digital scale, numerous plastic bags and empty capsules, according to an Elgin police report.

Wojcik pleaded guilty to reduced charges last fall and was sentenced to 180 days in jail and four years of probation.

Laurance had previous arrests for driving under the influence of drugs, retail theft and possession of a controlled substance, records show.

Under state law, Laurance can have his sentence cut in half for good behavior in prison. He also gets credit for about seven months served at the Kane County jail.
