Mount Prospect's water tank makes top 12 in nation

In mid-October, Mount Prospect reached out to residents to take part in a contest and make Mount Prospect's Water Tank the Tank of the Year.

Mount Prospect was in the running along with nearly 100 water tanks from all across the nation that were painted using Tnemec paint within a 12-month period. Tnemec is a company that produces the paint used on water tanks throughout the nation. Mount Prospect's water tank was painted from April through July 2014.

The color selected is called "Clear Sky."

After three weeks of online voting, 14,694 total votes were registered. The tank nominations were whittled down from 235 entries to a dozen front-runners. The top 12 tanks were recently announced and the tank that received the most votes during the contest, Lebanon, Missouri, was named the "People's Choice." The other 10 featured tanks, in alphabetical order, are as follows: Artesia, New Mexico; Carpentersville, Illinois; Chatham, Ontario, Canada; Columbia, South Carolina; Fairborn, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; Mount Prospect, Illinois; Normal, Illinois; Pekin, Illinois; and Plainview, Texas.

According to a Tnemec public release, "Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to Midland, Texas, our official 2014 Tank of the Year winner. Although only one tank could win, all of the nominated water tanks deserve credit for making this year's contest such a success."

The tank in Midland, Texas will be featured in Tnemec's 2015 water tank calendar, with a photo on the cover and on the month of January, and all runners-ups, including Mount Prospect, will be featured on the following months.

Thank you to all residents and friends who helped to bring national attention to Mount Prospect. Also, a special thanks to Mike Zarnek for capturing the photo that will be featured in the calendar. While it may only be a Water Tank, it is a great symbol in Mount Prospect and will remain so for many years to come.
