Fire damages home near Elgin

A fire that left a two-story home in an unincorporated area near Elgin uninhabitable Monday afternoon remains under investigation, fire officials say.

The Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District responded to the fire just after 4 p.m. at 41w716 Russell Road and arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the single-family home, Pingree Grove Shift Supervisor Bill Misner said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured fighting the blaze.

Fire officials estimated the damage at about $70,000 in property damage and another $5,000 in damaged contents, Misner said.

Other departments that helped were: Hampshire, Burlington, Fox River, South Elgin and Elburn.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
