Police: Bloomingdale residents not in danger after fatal shooting

Bloomingdale police worked through the holiday to find out who shot and killed 37-year-old Nate Fox outside a townhouse on Monday night, and why.

So far, why anyone would shoot the former basketball player, now a car salesman, is a mystery. Police Chief Frank Giammarese said Thursday they have no new leads in the case but are looking at every possibility.

On Monday night about 9:40 p.m. Fox was returning home from work when he was hit by gunfire at least twice outside the townhouse he and his girlfriend were sharing on the 200 block of Tamarack Drive in Bloomingdale. He was taken to Adventist Glen Oaks Medical Center in Glendale Heights, where he died, police said.

Giammarese said detectives would work all day on Christmas to interview friends and family, follow leads and continue the investigation into Fox's murder.

"Everything is on the table. We are looking at everything," he said. Giammarese said several people have been cooperative witnesses, but no one has been ruled out as a suspect.

The department is working with the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force on the case.

"We're following up on every possible lead to find the person or persons responsible," Giammarese said.

Although no one has been charged, Giammarese said people in the neighborhood and around Bloomingdale should not be afraid for their safety.

"We've got a wonderful community, and I hope people realize that," he said. "I can understand why people are concerned, but I don't think anyone in our community is in danger."

He said Bloomingdale police have added extra patrols to help people feel safer.

A native of Joliet, Fox attended Boston College and the University of Maine, and played professional basketball for 12 years in Europe. He last signed in 2011 with the French club STB Le Havre.

A viewing for Fox will take place 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road in Joliet. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the same location.

Anyone with information about Fox or the shooting is asked to call police at (630) 529-9868.
