Calls were made last night for the resignation of Warren Township High School board member Liz Biondi after Biondi said she would not want to hire someone who is gay to replace retiring Superintendent Mary Perry Bates. About 400 people filled a cafeteria for a school board meeting at Warren's Almond Road junior-senior campus in Gurnee. Fifteen visitors used public comment time to criticize Biondi for her remarks and demanded her resignation, often to applause from the crowd. Full story.

A mock "recruiting" video that Barrington High School backup wide receiver Jack Lenihan made highlighting his junior season - mostly showing him standing on the sidelines watching his teammates in action - went viral this week, earned him national attention and even a pair of college offers. Three men charged in Aurora armed robberies

Three men have been charged in connection with three armed robberies in October, Aurora officials said Tuesday. Martell White, 25, of Dolton, Charles Campbell, 27, of Chicago and Derrick Glasper, 27, of Bellwood have been charged with three counts of armed robbery. Full story.

Aurora fire, pipe burst damages high-rise units

A fire and a burst pipe left three units uninhabitable yesterday in an Aurora senior housing high-rise, officials said. The fire broke out around 4 a.m. in a unit on the sixth floor of the eight-story high-rise on the 400 block of North Constitution Drive, according to a news release. Full story.

Dist. 200 considers enrollment change for apartment complex

Students who move into an apartment complex on the northern edge of Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 may be going to a school different from students already living there. The district's boundary map calls for students living in the Covered Bridges Apartments near North Avenue and Schmale Road in Carol Stream to attend Hawthorne Elementary School in Wheaton. Rolling Meadows man gets 12 years for sex assault

A Rolling Meadows man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage boy last September and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Juan Munoz-Tapia, 49, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault. Full story.

Elgin man sentenced to 15 years for cocaine delivery

An Elgin man with multiple drug convictions pleaded guilty to selling cocaine to Elgin undercover police officers. Ina Spates, 33, pleaded guilty last week to the manufacture and delivery of cocaine, court records show. In exchange, Spates was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Full story.

It's official: Melky Cabrera joins White Sox

Melky Cabrera will also be at the Cell, along with Jeff Samardzija and David Robertson, after officially agreeing to a three-year, $42 million contract yesterday. The free-agent outfielder played for the Blue Jays last season and ranked ninth in the American League with a .301 batting average, tied for 10th with 35 doubles and was 18th with a .351 on-base percentage.
