U.S. Marshals find man charged in Round Lake Beach slaying in Gary

Police say they've captured a South suburban man who's been on the run since the weekend when he was charged in the slaying of a Round Lake Beach resident.

Jeremy Anderson, 36, of Chicago Heights, was arrested without incident Wednesday in Gary, Indiana. He's scheduled for an extradition hearing Thursday.

Authorities obtained a $3 million arrest warrant for Anderson on Sunday after he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder alleging he shot and killed Anthony Robinson Jr., 31, of Round Lake Beach, in what police labeled a domestic incident.

George Filenko, commander of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force and Round Lake Park's police chief, said Anderson surrendered Wednesday morning to the U.S. Marshal Service's Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The task force hunts for federal, state and local fugitives.

Asked how authorities found Anderson, Filenko said, "Just from tips and leads and phone tracking and things like that."

Filenko said the federal task force staked out a home where Anderson was believed to be staying Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, he said, marshals contacted the property owner regarding Anderson, who then was seized.

Authorities in Gary recovered the gun they believe Anderson used in the slaying, Filenko said. A blue, four-door Chevrolet Malibu also was found outside the Gary home, matching the vehicle police say Anderson drove from the crime scene in Round Lake Beach.

Robinson was found by officers at 9:13 p.m. Saturday as they responded to reports of a shooting at his home on the 1400 block of Idlewild Drive. He was taken to the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

In an interview with the Daily Herald. a next-door neighbor, Lance Robar, said he was in the home when the shooting occurred but in another room. Robinson, who worked as a painter, was killed during a family get-together, Robar said.

Police have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between Robinson and Anderson.
