New gated subdivision proposed in Barrington

A national developer is moving forward with plans to build a 43-home gated subdivision on South Grove Avenue in Barrington, east of the former Barn of Barrington and west of the Park Barrington subdivision.

David Weekley Homes, a Houston-based homebuilder, had its building plan approved by the Barrington Plan Commission in October and will go before the village board on Nov. 24.

John Morgan, the president of the company's Chicago division, said the subdivision will be called "The Reserves of Barrington."

"It will be a gated enclave, catering to both young families looking to get into the fantastic 220 schools as well as residents in the surrounding areas looking to downsize into smaller lots," Morgan said.

According to documents filed with the village, the subdivision will have private streets and sidewalks and each of the 43 homes will have at least three bedrooms and range between 2,700 and 3,600 square feet. A homeowners association will be established for the subdivision, which will be responsible for maintaining the private streets, private sidewalks, landscaping and snow removal.

Morgan said the designs for the houses are not yet finished but they will present the board with more finished designs in the future.

If it is approved by the village board, the Reserves of Barrington would be the second David Weekley Homes project in the Chicago suburbs to get underway since the company's Chicago office opened in Schaumburg on March 1.

Morgan said a nine-townhouse deal in Naperville has been approved and the company is studying the surrounding municipalities for more developments.

The project plan was approved unanimously by the Barrington Plan Commission.
