Palatine man charged in Rolling Meadows hit-and-run

A Palatine man who police say was racing his car around a parking lot last week and hit a man trying to write down the license plate has been charged.

Corey Ligon, 21 of the 1100 block of Smith Street in Palatine, was charged with reckless driving, failure to give aid or information, expired registration and criminal trespass to property, said Rolling Meadows Sgt. Tom Gadomski.

Police said Ligon and other friends were "drifting," or skidding around corners, in an empty parking lot at 5600 Apollo in Rolling Meadows on the night of Oct. 28.

An employee at the business came out to write down the license plate numbers and call police when Ligon's car slid into him, police said.

The employee has been released from Northwest Community Hospital and is recovering well, police said.

Police worked with a local dealership, Patrick BMW in Schaumburg, to identify the type of car in the accident. Once the car was identified, police put out a flier and received several anonymous tips that led them to Ligon, Gadomski said.

"We had a lot of help from social media, and identifying the car was a big hit for us," Gadomski said.

Ligon turned himself in to police on Sunday, Gadomski said.

Three other men - Kyle Freeman, 21, of Hoffman Estates, Lucas Szylke, 20, of Palatine and Alexander Cook, 19, of Hoffman Estates - were cited for criminal trespass, police said.
