Elgin man charged with his 5th DUI

A 51-year-old man was arrested over the weekend in Geneva and charged with his fifth DUI, according to police and court records.

Christopher Caudill, of the 2000 block of Valley Creek Drive, Elgin, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of aggravated DUI.

According to a Geneva police report, Caudill was arrested at about 11:07 p.m. Saturday on the 0-99 block of Hamilton Street.

A Batavia police officer saw Caudill cross a street's centerline several times as well as hit curbs several times in Batavia and followed him to Hamilton, pulled him over and called Geneva police for assistance, the report said.

Information about Caudill's behavior was redacted from the report, but prosecutors approved the felony aggravated DUI charge based on his Caudill's previous four DUI convictions, according to the report.

Caudill was being held at the Kane County jail on $200,000 bail, meaning he must post $20,000 to be released while the case is pending.

He is next due in court Thursday.

Caudill has been sent to prison three times for retail theft, unlawful restraint and felony driving under the influence of alcohol, records show.

According to Kane County court records, Caudill has more than 40 arrests in the county since 1998.

Including the Geneva incident, he's been arrested 19 times on driving while his license was revoked, which is a misdemeanor.

One of his four DUIs was from an arrest in October 2005 in North Aurora, records show.

Information on other DUI arrests was not immediately available.
