Crystal Lake teen identified as Lakewood crash victim

The woman who died Saturday in a fiery rollover crash in Lakewood has been identified as a 19-year-old Crystal Lake woman. Jacquelyn Paulson, 19, of Crystal Lake was killed around 4 p.m. Saturday when her vehicle collided head on with another vehicle at the intersection of routes 47 and 176, then flipped over, police said. Man found dead at wooded McHenry County crash scene

Bull Valley police are investigating the cause of an apparent one-car crash that left a man dead in a ditch 20 feet off the road in a heavily wooded area of the McHenry County community. Danielle Stevens, Bull Valley supervisor of police, said an autopsy will be performed on the man to learn if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, as well as what time the crash occurred. Lawsuit says Elgin hair salon injured 7-year-old

A 7-year-old girl went to get a haircut in Elgin this spring, but ended up with a trip to the hospital instead. That's the allegation in a lawsuit recently filed in Kane County against Nicasio Opopeza and Nico's Hair Salon, 308 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin. Loren Golden, the attorney representing the Valdivia and her daughter, argues Opopeza lacerated the girl's scalp by negligently using "cutting tools" during the haircut. "(The girl) needed staples. Waukegan Dist. 60 classes canceled again because of strike

Classes are canceled again today because of the ongoing strike in Waukegan Unit District 60, which has seen some 1,200 teachers hit the picket lines for more than two weeks. Contract negotiations between the district and union have not resumed since talks broke down last Wednesday. Full story.

Pit bulls, pinot and patriots in Long Grove

A black pit bull named Sheena sat patiently yesterday as wine lovers came up to pet her during the 2nd annual Pinot with Pits For Patriots at Valentino's Vineyard in Long Grove. Pits for Patriots hosted the event to raise money for training, feeding, housing, and veterinary care for rescued pit bulls as they are transformed into service dogs for veterans and first responders. "We've found this little gem in the Chicagoland area and it's a nice fall day to tour the vineyard," said Pits for Patriots founder Kelly Yearwood of Bensenville. "Then people can go in and sip some wine, help rescue dogs and help the veterans." Full story.

Bears' offense out to lunch all day in ugly loss to Dolphins
