Wintrust Bank's new Mayfair office now open

The Wintrust Bank-Mayfair building at 4343 N. Elston, Chicago, is officially complete and open for business. The new facility, located on the same lot as the original bank, was built with a permit through the City of Chicago's Green Permit Program and is currently pursuing LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

The building was a collaboration between bank stakeholders, Valenti Builders and the design team from Myefski Architects who worked together to evaluate the design for: cost, accessibility, efficiency, overall environmental impact, productivity, creativity and community impact. Specific environmental considerations were taken when making decisions about the building's heating and cooling system, insulation, lighting, and materials used for construction.

"The team really took the time to think things through and plan for what benefits this building could have, both logistically and environmentally," said Wintrust Bank president and CEO Bill Lynch. "I think our customers and the community will be pleased with the results."

The new bank was designed to be a healthy environment for the occupants, energy-efficient and environmentally sensitive. It has prairie style architecture to compliment the historic homes in the local communities. With the aid of computer modeling and energy simulation software, the team chose to install a geothermal heat pump for the building's heating and cooling system, and made several improvements to the building's envelope to minimize energy loss throughout the year. The building is equipped with high performance window and continuous foam insulation on the walls, roof and under the floor to help with control energy usage. Sensors have been installed to automatically dim lighting levels when natural light is available through strategically placed skylights and windows.

"This exciting project demonstrates Wintrust's commitment to the community," said Kathleen Gallagher, Wintrust Bank senior vice president of retail banking. "We are delighted that our new Mayfair office will be seen as an investment to help revitalize our surroundings and provide a positive impact on the neighborhood."

All building components, including building structure, exterior components and interior finishes, were specifically selected for their low impact on the environment. Products high in recycled content or rapidly renewable materials were used wherever possible. Those that were locally harvested and manufactured were given priority to support the use of indigenous resources and to reduce the environmental impact of transportation. The team also used products that reduce the quantity of potential indoor air contaminants and pollutants, to improve the comfort and health of the building's occupants and visitors.

The new location is 4,000 square feet and includes a large community room available for events and educational seminars. The same banking services will be offered and normal hours of operation are, Monday through Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
