Man charged with stalking in Geneva, Batavia

A 46-year-old man is accused of stalking his estranged wife by waiting for her outside of a Batavia movie theater, purposefully rear-ending her car and trying to cut her off as she drove away, according to Geneva police and court records.

Mark A. Boelkens, of the 3N600 block of Locust Avenue, West Chicago, was arrested early Saturday morning and later charged with two felony counts of stalking, Kane County court records show.

He also received two traffic citations in an incident that began Friday night after the victim and another man left the Randall 15 movie theater in Batavia.

According to Geneva police, the incident began at about 11:35 p.m. Friday, when Boelkens was waiting on Mill Street near the theater for the woman and her male companion to leave.

The woman told police she turned onto Randall Road and then Fabyan Parkway in an effort to get away from Boelkens, the report said.

The woman told police she was scared to pull over and stop because she was afraid of what Boelkens might do, the report said.

As the woman drove her 2005 Acura MDX east on Fabyan, Boelkens ran into the back of her vehicle at Fabyan and Raddant Road with his 2005 GMC truck, causing minor damage to both vehicles, according to court records.

The woman then called police and later made a U-turn at Fabyan and Enterprise Drive because Boelkens was trying to pass her and cut her off, the report said.

Geneva Police Cmdr. Julie Nash said neither the woman nor her companion were injured. Authorities called Boelkens and he came to the Geneva Police Department for questioning at about 2:13 a.m. Saturday and he was later arrested.

Nash declined to comment on the relationship between the woman and her male companion. Nash also declined to comment on whether Boelkens made any threats toward the woman during the incident.

"That's part of a pending investigation," Nash said.

Boelkens is free after posting $1,000 bond and cannot have contact with the victim.

He is next due in court Oct. 22 and faces anywhere from probation to three years in prison, if convicted.

Boelkens does not have any previous criminal arrests in Kane and DuPage counties, records show.
