Mundelein man's crash trial starts

A Mundelein man deserves to be found guilty of murder because he intentionally caused a fatal crash while high on synthetic cannabis and a psychedelic drug the night of Thanksgiving 2012, a prosecutor told a Lake County jury during opening statements Tuesday. However, the defense attorney for Mark Oelerich said Oelerich had been suffering from "delusions" and "paranoia" for months before causing the crash that killed Araceli Villasenor, 25, of Round Lake Beach, and injuring her three children. Police: Naperville man had, distributed child porn

A Naperville man accused of possessing and disseminating child pornography is awaiting his day in Will County court after police completed a three-month investigation, authorities said. Sami Salminen, 40, of the 4200 block of Rollingridge Road, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with one felony count of possession/dissemination of child pornography, Naperville police said. A woman crashed her car Tuesday afternoon into the vestibule of the Wendy's at 900 Busse Road in Elk Grove Village, authorities said. The crash happened about 3:40 p.m. Full story.

Suburban attorney accused of lying

A suburban attorney and his translator were arrested Tuesday on federal charges of immigration fraud after, authorities allege, they falsified requests for asylum from a dozen foreign nationals. In some of the cases, the suspects falsely claimed their clients were seeking asylum because they'd been subjected to religious persecution by Islamic extremists in Iraq, according to prosecutors. Ex-St. Charles man convicted of sex assault

A former St. Charles resident was convicted Tuesday of sexually assaulting a young relative. Ramiro Fonseca, 43, of Pharr, Texas, was living in St. Charles between 2009 and February 2011 when the abuse occurred. Full story.
