Woman injured after being pinned in car near West Dundee

An injured woman who was pinned in her vehicle after a crash Sunday evening near West Dundee was airlifted to the hospital, fire officials said.

The woman, who was not identified, was trapped in her car for more than 20 minutes around 6:30 p.m. Sunday while Carpentersville Fire Protection District firefighters worked to free her from the wreckage near the intersection of Route 31 and Forest Drive in an unincorporated area near West Dundee.

Battalion Chief Bob Beattie said when fire crews arrived, the woman was trapped in her Lexus SUV around 35 feet off the road.

He said the vehicle had severe front-end damage that led to her being pinned down.

Beattie said it took crews 24 minutes to free her. The woman, who has nonlife-threatening injuries, was then airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by Flight For Life.

Beattie said the Kane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
