Author joins Zonta for book reading, discussion

The Zonta Club of St. Charles-Geneva-Batavia will host author Catherine Witek for a reading and discussion of her book "The Trial of Misella Cross" on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Carnegie Room at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Witek received a master's degree in English from the University of Chicago, a master's in teaching composition, and a Ph.D. in English/language, literacy, and rhetoric from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She served as writing program director and taught nonfiction writing and 18th-century English literature at St. Xavier University, Chicago, where she co-authored a textbook, "Research Writing in the Information Age." After a 20-year career at St. Xavier, she moved to Wisconsin to work as a freelance writer and to begin writing her first novel, "The Trial of Misella Cross." She has also been an assistant editor for the online publication, Narrative Magazine. She currently serves as Letters Chair on the National League of American Pen Women's board of directors in Washington, D.C.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. Admission is free to the public.

The Zonta Club of St. Charles-Geneva-Batavia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of women locally and globally. Each year, the club strives to advance the educational, economic, health, legal, political and professional status of women in the Fox Valley area with three primary activities: an educational scholarship program for young women seeking careers in aviation, public affairs and business; service grants to local agencies serving women in need and service projects.
