Local girls compete in National American Miss pageant

Anna Decheva of Palatine, Nicole Hrametz of Prospect Heights and Haley Nettles of Arlington Heights were chosen as state finalists in the National American Miss Illinois pageant, which will be held Aug. 2 and 3 at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles.

The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4-18 and have five different age divisions. Decheva will participate in the Junior Teen division, while Hrametz participates in the Pre-Teen division and Nettles in the Teen division.

The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the National Pageant in California, where she will receive a complimentary tour of Hollywood and two V.I.P. tickets to Disneyland.

The National American Miss pageants are dedicated to celebrating America's future leaders and equipping them with lifelong skills. Each year the pageant nationally awards $1.5 million in cash, scholarships and other prizes, which includes a new Ford Mustang convertible.

The pageant program is based on inner-beauty, as well as poise and presentation. Emphasis is put on the importance of developing self confidence, learning good sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals. The pageant recognizes the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future.

Decheva's activities include cheerleading at Palatine High School, the DECA Business Club and volunteering. She enjoys traveling, cooking, running and hanging out with her family.

Hrametz enjoys playing her string bass, drawing and spending time with her family. Her activities include dancing, acting, singing and playing basketball.

Nettles volunteers at the Lake Forest Gorton Community Center as a costume seamstress. She enjoys dancing, cheerleading and baking for family and friends.
