New Youth Ministry director at St. James Parish

Not many nuns can say they've hiked up Pikes Peak twice. Can ride a bike with no hands. Or have done the Insanity workout program five times. But for 34 year old Sister Faustina Ferko, the new director of Youth Ministry at St. James Parish in Arlington Heights, those are just a few of her many impressive accomplishments.

Sr. Faustina was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania.

"When in high school I really fell in love with Jesus. I had a strong desire to lead others to Him," she said. "I realized I was called to work in the Catholic Church as a Youth Minister, bringing young people the love of God I encountered when I was their age."

After graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in Theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville, she worked as a Youth Minister for 10 years, first in the Diocese of Erie and then in Duncanville, Texas. In Texas, she organized mission trips to Mexico, El Paso, Texas and New Orleans.

Sr. Faustina recently made her First Vows as a Sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Des Plaines. She began her new position at St. James on July 3.
