American Legion Auxiliary units send representatives to 2014 Girls State

The Girls State program was established 74 years ago by the American Legion Auxiliary to educate students on local and state government, including the process of running for political offices, what the job duties are, and the voting process.

It involves public speaking, developing leadership skills and awakening personal skills.

Girls State 2014 American Legion Auxiliary Units who are sending girls to the 74th Girls State session at Eastern Illinois University include: Antioch Unit 748, Gurnee Unit 771, Libertyville Unit 329, Mundelein Unit 867, Grayslake Post 659, Lake Bluff Post 510, Wauconda Unit 911, and Homer Dahringer 281.

Students selected to attend the program include: Victoria Villena, Halee Yarbrough, Mackenzie Whitlock, Virginia Brannaman, Isabelle Reyes, Rachel Lee, Lauren Velasco, Leah Nehlia, Cassidy Wright, Lydia Feer, Sierra Hovey, Katherine Bouma, Emily Boyd, Cristrina Vitucci, Janine Papa, Kayla McKenzie, Hayley Peterson, Jennifer Barreca, Kellie Conte, Katie Friend, Amber Osterman, Kayli Nartatez, Justine Hamilton, Morgan Yankee, Helen Burkhart, Jessica Duong, Annie Stevenson, Katherine Youdell, Caitlin Newell, Alyssa Remslak, Melissa Obis, Emerald Callahan, Meriecel Pasaporte, Kassandra Delarosa, Kaitlyn Larson, Shauna Findley, Karina Porfirio and Lindsey Biedron.
