August Hotel to represent Cary in regional Battle of the Bands competition

The Cary Area Battle of the Bands, hosted by the Cary Park District, was held May 10 at Lions Park. The winner, August Hotel, will represent the Cary area in the regional Battle of the Bands competition held this summer.

The band, along with the second place band, Shinehammer, will kick off the Cary Park District Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at the Rotary Bandshell in Lions Park, on Silver Lake Road, north of Three Oaks Road.

Hailing from Cary and McHenry, August Hotel was founded in the winter of 2011 under the name For Good or For Awesome and from late 2011 to late 2013 was known as The University. Drummer and percussionist Dean Sinclair and guitarist and vocalist Ryan had already been making music together for several years, and the two decided to bring in their friends Cale Singleton, vocals and bass, and John Benedeck, keyboards and vocals, to round out the lineup. They released an EP called "Red/blue" in 2012 and released their first single "December" last November followed by the January release of their digital album "Teenagers."

The concert series continues from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at Lions Park.

On June 19, local Cary band, Jennerator Band, formed with a passion for music, entertainment and fun will play everything from pop hits to country to classic rock.

On June 26, Liberty's Teeth, an American Party Band, will perform rock, pop, country and dance music.

On July 10, Jump Taxi, a Chicago area cover band, will play all the songs that will have you singing and dancing all night long.

On July 17, Saturday June Band, a fun, family-friendly rock 'n' roll band, will cover everything from the 1960s to today.
