Hawthorn Woods crash hospitalizes three

Two adults and a child were hospitalized after a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon in Hawthorn Woods.

The accident occurred on Old McHenry Road, just west of Fairfield Road, and caused police to block off the road for four hours.

Early results of a police investigation indicate a male resident of Island Lake was driving an eastbound 2003 Chevy Suburban when he crossed the centerline and slammed into a 2011 Toyota van head-on. The van was driven by a 31-year-old man form Lake Zurich and contained a child secured in a car seat. Police are not yet releasing the identities of the people involved in the accident.

Emergency medical crews took the drivers to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The child was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The extent of the injuries is not known at this time.

Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
