  • Glenbard South senior Joe Singleton, of Wheaton, won the 1600-meters at the track and field sectional meet held in Glen Ellyn. I like how the image captures this powerful runner going full-speed into the finish with his eyes on the prize. It is a single-frame capture from a video clip I took using a hand-held Canon PowerShot S100 compact camera, which was designed to perform especially well in low-light and action situations. I have been taking amateur sports photos for nearly a decade before I got a shot that captures the athlete's winning moment like this.

  • Every Spring the Bleeding Heart plant on the west side of our house produces these lovely strings of bright pink flowers. The challenge was getting the whole string of 1-inch blossoms in focus, because they constantly sway back and forth with any wind.

  • Nothing finishes out a day better than an awesome sunset. This photo, was taken free of charge, and viewable from our back yard during a staycation moment I will always remember.

  • This photo seems to contrast a welcoming, yet foreboding building entrance. The unaltered object was taken in the late evening while I was in Bemidji, MN earlier this month.
