Woodstock Craigslist rapist admits 2nd assault, faces 120 years in prison

A 45-year-old Woodstock man who was convicted last month of sexually assaulting a woman he met on Craigslist in November 2012 pleaded guilty Monday to raping a Huntley woman in January 2013 who he also met on online, prosecutors said.

Charles Oliver now faces anywhere from 20 to 120 years in prison when sentenced May 8 by McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather for both cases.

As part of the plea, prosecutors dismissed charges he attacked six other women, but McHenry County Assistant State's Attorney Sharyl Eisenstein said the maximum 120-year sentence Oliver faces is the same maximum he would have faced had he been convicted in all eight cases.

“I'm pleased the victims will not have to come in and testify,” Eisenstein said.

A message left for defense attorney Mark Facchini was not immediately returned.

A jury last month took a little over three hours to convict Oliver.

During the trial, jurors were shown a 12-minute video of Oliver and the victim, a 22-year-old college student from Chicago, having sex.

On the video, the woman whimpers while Oliver tells her what to do and not to be scared.

The victim also testified that she met Oliver online, agreed to have sex with him for $200 and met him at a train station in November 2012.

The woman testified she went to Oliver's home, performed oral sex on him and then he took her — naked — to a room in his basement. He locked the door from the outside, and pushed her to the floor saying from now on things would be done his “way,” the woman testified.

The woman testified that she had sex with Oliver because she was scared he would hurt her.

The woman testified Oliver made a copy of her ID card and said she knew where she lived and not to go to police.

During trial, Facchini argued that the sex between Oliver and the woman was consensual.

Also during last month's trial, another woman, this one from Huntley, also testified she met Oliver online and in person on January 2013 for paid sex.

She also testified Oliver took her to a basement room to intimidate her and she later intentionally scratched his penis during sex.

She asked Oliver to drive her back to her car but escaped after he appeared to be driving the opposite way.

Police eventually searched his home, finding a library of videos he took of other women he paid for sex and more victims came forward.

Monday, Oliver pleaded guilty to two charges of felony aggravated criminal sexual assault against the Huntley woman from January 2013.

That case was set for a March 31 trial.
