Lakes' Kurt Rowells has been selected by his peers and the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association as its 2013 Class 2A track and field boys coach of the year.

Rowells' hard work, dedication and leadership have been recognized both locally and at the state level by the ITCCCA membership. He led the Eagles to a fourth-place finish at the IHSA state track meet in Class 2A last spring.

Jake Hurcombe (Stevenson), a redshirt freshman on the Eastern Michigan University football team, has earned academic All-Mid-American Conference honors. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Hurcombe started 11 games last season on the offensive line, including the final seven games as the center.
