18-year-old charged in fatal Glenview crash
A Des Plaines area man is facing DUI charges in a fatal crash in Glenview.
Dustin Aranda, 18, was charged Thursday with aggravated driving under the influence causing death and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver after his car struck a 65-year-old pedestrian on Jan. 17.
Aranda tested positive for THC and Benzodiazepine, police said.
Cook County Sheriff investigators also found a sealed bag with 27 grams of marijuana, authorities said.
Police said Aranda’s beige 2002 Chevrolet hit Janina Kasperek about 11:20 a.m. on the 300 block of Greenwood Avenue. The Niles woman was found in a drainage area on the west side of the road, police said.
Kasperek was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A Cook County judge set bail for Aranda at $270,000.
Jocelyn Maldonado Verdin, 18, of Niles, a passenger in Aranda’s vehicle, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
Verdin’s bail was set Friday at $20,000.
