Arlington Heights man sentenced for robbery

An Arlington Heights man, who admitted stealing $8,000 from a man he met through an online ad earlier this year, was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday.

Brandon Timberlake, 27, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery before Cook County Judge Ellen Mandletort. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Timberlake responded to an online ad from an individual seeking used cellphones, which he then refurbishes and resells. Timberlake met the man in the 100 block of N. Salem Drive in Schaumburg, at about 8:30 p.m. on July 5, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Crowe.

Timberlake pointed to his waistband to indicate he was armed and demanded money from the victim, who turned over $8,000 in $100 bills, Crowe said.

Timberlake had a BB-gun that looked like a real handgun, police said.

Charges are pending against Timberlake’s co-defendant, Jay V. Dixon Jr., of Skokie. Dixon next appears in court on Dec. 13
