Schaumburg H.S. band to play at Outback Bowl

The Schaumburg High School Band will be traveling to sunny Florida to be part of the Outback Bowl festivities in Tampa, culminating in the half-time show of the New Year’s Day bowl game at Raymond James Stadium.

The band, which includes 230 members, has been preparing for this trip all year. Fundraisers, such as cookie dough sales, candy sales, restaurant promotions, and a mattress sale were held to subsidize the costs for the weeklong trip.

The band begins its tour on Dec. 26, taking four buses to Orlando for the first three days of the tour. While in Orlando, the band will perform on Dec. 29 in the Magic Kingdom for “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade.”

That evening, the band will make its way south to Tampa. Besides participating in the half-time show on New Year’s Day, the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble will compete with the 14 other participating high school bands. All the high schools and both college bands also will perform on Dec. 31 in the Outback Bowl Parade through the Ybor section of Tampa.

The half-time performance will be telecast nationally on ESPN. The band is scheduled to return home late Jan. 2.
