No serious injuries in day care bus crash

A day care bus carrying five children collided with an SUV Monday afternoon near Ingleside, and one person was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The crash took place about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Route 134 and Wilson Road. A 1998 GMC Jimmy SUV was traveling south on Wilson Road and attempted to turn east Route 134, said Lake County sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Thompson.

A 2006 Chevrolet Microbird short bus was taking kids from a Big Hollow school in Ingleside and traveling north on Wilson Road en route to KIDSUCCESS day care in Fox Lake when it struck the SUV and caused the smaller vehicle to flip on its side.

The driver of the SUV, a 77-year-old Long Lake man, and his 15-year-old grandson were both treated at the scene and released.

Five children on the bus were uninjured. The 37-year-old bus driver, who is pregnant, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center as a precaution, Thompson said.

The accident remains under investigation, Thompson said, and citations could be issued later.
