Girl, 6, dies from injuries suffered in Round Lake Beach crash

A 6-year-old girl has died from injuries suffered Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Round Lake Beach, authorities said.

Leyzle Artega, of Round Lake, was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m. Saturday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she had been transported after first being taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

According to authorities, the girl was one of two people hospitalized after a crash at 2:48 p.m. Saturday at Route 83 and Millstone Drive. The girl suffered serious head injuries, Round Lake Beach police said in a news release.

There was no further information available Sunday on the condition of the second person injured in the crash. Authorities said that person was riding in the same vehicle as Leyzle.

Round Lake Beach police said they and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team continue to investigate the crash and its cause.
