Grayslake teenager struck, killed by car in Mundelein
A Grayslake teenager died after being struck by a vehicle late Thursday night in Mundelein, authorities said.
Alex Blouch, 16, was hit about 11:30 p.m. on Route 45 south of University Drive.
Alex may have been riding a skateboard in the roadway and listening to an MP3 player when he was hit, Mundelein police said.
He was struck by a 2009 Honda SUV that was headed north on Route 45, police said. The 18-year-old Gurnee man driving the SUV wasn’t hurt, police said.
No charges were filed.
Alex was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was pronounced dead at 12:19 a.m. Friday, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.
An autopsy revealed Alex died of multiple injuries.
The accident is under investigation.
Alex was a junior at Grayslake Central High School. He was the junior varsity lacrosse team’s defensive player of the year this past season.
“(He was) a very hardworking player who was extremely passionate about the game of lacrosse and had earned the respect of everyone on the team,” Coach Steve Lavigne said in a news release.
The school’s crisis team met Friday. Counselors, teachers and administrators will be available to help students in the weeks to come, Superintendent Catherine Finger said in an email.
